On Silent Night

On threads of silver
Hangs a starless silent night
Against the backdrop
Of a dark blue velvet sky
No moon in glow
To cast its shadows
Of darkness and light
No whippoorwill heard singing
A lonesome lullaby

The clouds have tiptoed somewhere
Far beyond where the night
Meets the edge of day
And nowhere is heard an orchestra
Of crickets and the chirping
Instruments they play

The still is heard
Throughout the silent night
Its crisp quiet softness
Is felt everywhere
And midst the mislaid glimmer
Of stars sparkling bright
Is heard the calming sound
Of nothing there
