Vision Pearls

shunning the harsh barbs of a cruel light
these wearied eyes falter,
straining memories from the dark.
sand gathered in their bruised corners glistens
beneath prisms of sleepless tears. vision pearls.

grainy souvenirs of a faded past,
etched and galleried in visceral photographs.
sepia-toned, lending a nostalgic air,
invoke more tears, glittering seeds,
planted in the glare of this impoverished prodigal,
the progeny of a half life
imposed by an instant’s residue,
crawling insomniac
through dissonant strings of haunted nights.
an act with desperation’s effort—glimmer of a sense of purpose?

these shedding tears, brief graceful heralds
of imprisoned emotion’s reprieve,
signal the lame heart beats, unbowed,
parched soul churning, restless in its traces.
somehow indomitable, despite every dismal thing
the remnant mind has convinced itself remains of worth.
pent spirit ready for another run
if ever stupid resignation’s blinders fall away
admitting painless radiance
to bathe prospect clean of fatalism’s filth.
signal life, so hope, spiting daily lessons to the contrary
