Sometime After September

It falls quite quickly
here in the village above the Hudson,

like clock-work
if you could wind your watch to weather.

One weekend
all traffic stops.

Rakes scraping yards
resound and blistered hands

feed flaming drums where
summer burns. The incense rises

settling on empty streets
and manicured lawns.
