They Had Love

They had love....
I could tell by the way she absently touched his collar with her fingers
And how he glanced at her when she turned to look out the window.

They had love....
Him behind the wheel and her pulling down the visor to check her lipstick.
And it was comfortable--the kind of love that only comes after time and tearful nights.

I wanted what they had.
Driving behind them, even through the dripping rain I felt the envy and the sadness.
And I wept as she leaned towards him and gently kissed his cheek.
