Picture Window

For a brief time
I felt I had connected with someone,
then the dream shattered.

Like a rock through a window
you hurled my life,
distorting the view.

It was just a dream
reality forestalled for a short time,
comfort in your eyes.

But I watched in horror,
as the perfect pane shattered,
falling madly to the floor.

Fragmented reflections of my life fell,
crashing around me
as sharp edged dreams came alive.

I tried to gather the pieces
and fit them back together,
but the blood ran from my wounds.

On the floor
I silently watched the shattered illusions
of life once seen through my picture window.
