I Met a Man the Other Day

Fortunes made and fortunes lost
By wealthy men who count the cost
But is it worth the price that's paid
To follow the path so dark, yet made
To bring me to myself

And what awaits him at the end
Surprise reunion with a friend
A man awakened now from slumber
Familiar am I with him, I wonder
We have so much in common

Was it the long way taken that brought my grief?
Away, around, above, beneath
Or the shortest distance between two points
Though stretched and stretched until my joints
Brought the two of me together

The price is paid for the lonely dance
And I came to notice by his stance
The lessons he gathered and did rue
The solitary steps that brought him to...
He's sure they were a bargain
