Despair

The stars shine brightest in the darkest night
And, like the stars, the love I crave
Gleams brightly in the lofty void above my upturned head -
A beacon in the distance my despair has put between us.

O come not, Day, my cherished darkness to dispel
And fill the heavens with your raging light.
In darkness deep I seek my lonely solace
And hide my grief in madness, protector of the sensible.
