Bar Napkin

The claws of the world
Hold my heart, a bear-trap.
Struggling, the knives dig deeper.
Only by releasing, will I be.
Letting go free, I am.
But who defeats what kills bears?
A poet, I laugh, in the splintered
Mirror, who will feed me
By being fed?
Today's defeat is enough for anyone,
Let tomorrow come with all her evils,
Today will have been beaten
Better than any war, I might wage.
I think I'll drink
Away this day
Of sickness and despair
