Alone Again

The night was not unlike my soul
Dark, detached, and hollow
I searched for warmth
For the wind blew cold
Soon I found a path to follow

The path brought me 'round to an open door
I stepped in to the light
I looked around
And there you were
A beacon shining bright

I cried for joy to find you there
I let you touch my heart
I let you hold me
Though it wasn't fair
For I knew I'd soon depart

For you see:

A cry in the dark oft goes unheard
Except by the sensitive few
But a cry in the dark
Or a sigh or a word
Was all I could give to you

Untimely am I for tis you that I sought
I sought I found and I knew
That my cry in the dark
Was born of pain
And completely unfair to you
