Behind My Eyes

I feel these tears behind my eyes
Like sudden storms in western skies.
Without reason, need or warning -
Sweetly, sadly, subtly mourning.
Truths and lullabies long hailed
Clothed in myths and memories veiled.
A father serves to haunt his son,
And everything I've ever done
Is twice reviewed and twice replayed
In a court where all decisions made
Reflect the life I've thrown away
And ‘loserville’ is where I’ll stay.
This is false and far from true
But with these thoughts I turn so blue.
So, dust me off and set my chin
To forge ahead, to not give in.
To be the man and love the child
That lost his heart in a world gone wild
And make his tears all go away...
With this I turn to face my day.
