Drinking Well

Bending backwards,
over the edge,
against the earth round rim
of the cool
drinking
well.
Head tilted,
pigtails coil down,
copper penny snakes charm wishes
from the
seeing
pool.
Mirror held high
before the melon ripe sun,
rays reaching through a
hole
in the
heavens.
Sinking into wizened faces
of our mothers and grandmothers, great
future reflecting in the
iris
of the
soul.
