Being Seen

I am the one you overlooked,
when you chose teams for kickball.

I am the one you pushed into lockers,
when you were walking down the hall.

I am the one you wouldnt ask to dance,
when I was the only one left sitting.

I am the one you yelled in frustration at,
when you were the one that was quitting.

I am the one that you laughed at,
when you thought that I didnt hear you,

I am the one that came and picked you up,
when you needed someone to come to your rescue.

I am the one you reached out for,
when you needed someone by your side.

I am the one you drove across country to,
when all you wanted to do was hide.

I am the one you smiled at,
when you saw me in a different light.

I am the one you dreamed of,
when you fell asleep so late at night.

I am the one you remember,
when you think of how badly you hurt me.

I am the one you love so much,
when you carve my name in the oak tree.

I am the one you want to hold tight,
when you think how beautiful life can be.

I am the one that you call friend,
when you open your heart and see me.
